The mac-group PGA Pro-Am 2019

Thomas Flynn

By: Thomas Flynn

mac have maintained our 93% repeat business by continuing to sponsor the largest single day event in the PGA Irish tour in the form of the mac-group PGA Pro-Am at Portmarnock Links this year. On Monday 5th of August teams of both professionals and amateurs took part over two rounds of golf in both the morning and afternoon with the promise of a €16,500 prize pool.

People, Talent, Question Assumptions, Authenticity, Exceed Expectations and Loyalty. We embed these core values throughout everything we do here at mac. It was important to us to carry these values over to the completion of the mac-group PGA Pro-Am.

People. Whether it is our own staff, the PGA professionals or the 150 amateurs who ventured out to take part in our event. It is important for us to ensure that the people who make this event possible experience the highest quality achievable.

David Higgins, PGA Professional at Waterville Golf Links and mac brand ambassador

Talent. We believe that Portmarnock Links and their team led by Head PGA Professional Conor Russell bring the talent necessary to deliver and exceed the expectations of what a PGA Pro-Am is. We also believe in the talent of Irish golf and continue our partnership with participating PGA Professional David Higgin of Waterville Golf Links as he continues to be a mac brand ambassador.

Question Assumptions. As a Your Specialist Construction, Fit Out and Modular Partner, managing golf events is not in mac’s direct line of work. But we use this to our advantage and by questioning the assumptions made by others, we can improve upon them and deliver experiences assumed not to be possible.

Authenticity. It was important for mac to provide all golfers an authentic image of who mac are. This is why we had members of the #TEAMmac staff available on the day to deliver an authentic experience of who the people of mac are. We also had some of our own take part in the event to ensure the authenticity ran through on the green too!

Exceed Expectations. After the great feedback last year, we wanted to not just exceed our own expectations but to exceed the expectations of all at the event.

The best set up that we see in any pro-am throughout the year where no detail is overlooked.

Steven Quinlan, PGA Professional of SQ Golf

Loyalty. We continue to support Portmarnock Links, the PGA, and the professionals who take part in the Pro-Am by making it the single largest day event in the PGA tour. We hold this event and all involved in high regard and look forward to continuing to grow our relationship with all.

This year’s mac-group PGA Pro-Am saw both Daniel Sugrue and Michael McGeady finish 4 under par with a total of 67 strokes. Both men went home with this year’s new edition of a smaller keepsake trophy, while Daniel Sugrue took home the highly coveted polished brass still trophy. This trophy finds a home in The Snug member’s bar in Portmarnock Links in the weeks leading up to the event every year.
