The PGA in Ireland season has well and truly swung into action for Waterville Links’ and mac-group brand ambassador, David Higgins.
David, one of the most successful players in the history of the Irish regional circuit, became Irish PGA champion for the second time at the weekend after he defied some grueling weather conditions to shoot a brilliant round of one-over 73 and beat overnight leader Mark Staunton by the minimum and win the 111th Irish PGA Championship at Carne Golf Links in Belmullet.
A jubilant Higgins said “It’s right up there, obviously winning it for the first time was the best but this is next best. It’s been a tough time for everyone with Covid and I hadn’t played in eight and a half months.
“I came out and I didn’t know if I was coming or going to be honest, so this shows that I’m on the right track and I’m playing nice, so I’m delighted it’s right up there with any of the other wins I’ve had.”
