On June 13th, mac-group won the Best Place to Work award in the Large Business category at The Irish News Workplace and Employment Awards! This is a huge honour to be recognised by the Irish News WEA, as every year they highlight the importance of the people in organisations, and celebrate the very best of them around Ireland featuring all sizes of businesses from large blue-chip corporations to small start-ups and sole traders. The competition is intense but it differs from other competitions through its emphasis on the talent of the organisation and the impact of the business in local community, rather than focusing on profit and loss.
The Irish News WEA have for 13 years been spreading the message that talent equals success and talented people will always come first. This message has clearly been received as each year this glittering black tie event is sold out due to businesses who want to be seen and recognised within the local business arena.
It was a white-knuckle moment as the list of contenders for Best Place to Work were announced. Given mac was up against such big names, a win felt impossible. But the impossible was overcome and our table erupted with joy when mac-group was declared as the overall winner!
mac winning the accolade of Best Place to Work is business gold. Winning against the big contenders in our category illustrates just how far the business has come and credits it as an exceptional place to work amongst the country’s elite.
Not only was it an impressive competition, but a memorable night due to its exquisite venue in the illustrious Titanic Museum. The night was dreamlike and filled with surreal moments such as ascending the iconic Titanic staircase to collect your award, or as I like to describe it: “the staircase to business heaven!”
Overall the night was a huge success. mac are honoured to win an Irish News Award especially considering the impressive attendees also nominated in our category, Baker McKenzie, MJM Marine, and Almac Group. At mac, we acknowledge what a privilege it is to be included in an award that showcases our business’ commitment and success as an employer in an era of fierce competition for talent. Now that we have two Irish News Awards to our credit, we will definitely be back next year to see if we can make it a hat trick! If our experience with the WEA could be summed up in a few words, “It was titanic!”
