Engineers’ Stunning New Office

04.07.2014

Merrion House is large, unapologetic, and from the outside almost fortress-like with a predominance of exposed concrete.  The architecturally Brutalist undertones convey an image of strength, functionality, and frugal construction that is fortuitously apt for a engineering and construction firm.  It is located on a very pretty part of South Dublin’s coastline.

Jacobs’ core values are based around relationships and people: their employee talent is a cornerstone of their success. They decided to invest in their two floors of Merrion House to improve the functionality and appearance of their offices and the experience of their key stakeholders: employees and clients.

Attention to detail and quality was very important on this job so the client needed a contractor who understood that and could achieve it within budget and programme. mac-interiors were chosen by a competitive tender process, and rose to the task – creating a stunning new office environment within budget and a day ahead of the programme!

One of the challenges presented in this project was the fact that the building was fully occupied and that Jacobs’ staff needed to be decanted into a swing-space and continue working while the project was ongoing. The ground floor was fully stripped out and fitted out, while the staff continued without losing any work time in a temporary first floor space, and then the procedure was repeated for the second floor. Works included large open-plan & cellular offices; bright new staff cafes & tea stations; meeting & conference rooms; acoustic partitions and ceilings. The project was completed within the agreed 25 weeks, and all works were carried out under the rigorous health and safety requirements of an occupied building.
