Project Overview

The BD Medical Drogheda project entails the extension of existing warehouse and service yard, and the refurbishment of existing production facility ASD4. Construction of a new ground floor and mezzanine level to expand existing production lines for BD Medical and includes enhancements to the existing production facility.

Project Works Description

The works at BD Medical in Drogheda comprise of a building expansion to provide additional on-site warehousing capacity. This includes installing a secant pile retaining wall to facilitate a new access road and new concrete yard.

Enabling works consist of re-routing the ESB supply, demolitions of existing out buildings and concrete yard. Construction of a steel frame with Kingspan roof & wall cladding; FM2 ground floor slab and concrete mezzanine levels, with office space on both levels and M&E fitout works; new external concrete road and yard to facilitate new extension.

Enhancements to existing production facilities and associated waste water treatment plant and creating a new HGV entrance to site. The works also comprise of significant M&E upgrade works for the existing production facility which includes roof works, new steel plant platforms, new chillers, AHUs, steam header, pumps and tanks etc.

Mechanical Scope

MECO Works, sprinkler systems, enhancement to existing ventilation systems (T Bourke Mechanical & Writech Sprinklers).

Electrical Scope

Warehouse lighting in new extension and upgrade power, lighting and containment in existing facility (Braham Electrical).

Project Challenges

Working in a live production facility and adjacent to a live facility, particularly during the current Global COVID-19 pandemic.

Products/Systems Installed

Kingspan Cladding, FM2 groundfloor slab, Firemaster internal walls, passenger lift, fire alarm, sprinkler systems, drylining partitions and firewalls, steel doors and shutters.

Sustainability/Environmental aspects

This framework is a strong advocate of LEAN design and construction.

Special Works

MECO Works to existing water treatment room and 160m secant piled wall.
