Project

Horizon Logistics Park D8

Horizon Logistics Park, Harristown, St. Margaret’s, Swords, Dublin.

Building on from the successful delivery of Horizon Unit D9 in January 2020, mac-group were awarded the build of Horizon Logistics Park D8 for repeat client Henderson Park. This project achieved a LEED Gold rating.

The project comprises the Design & Build of a Logistical Warehouse extending to 161,000 sq. ft. on a site area of circa 8.4 acres. The warehouse incorporates a 2-storey ancillary office building within its own self-contained site. External works comprise a dedicated service yard, loading docks, perimeter fencing, 150 no. car parking spaces, and an ESB Substation.

The building is of steel framed construction finished in coloured cladding with coloured raised bands, extensive feature glazing including a curtain walled glazed entrance feature. The natural fall of the site was utilised to minimise the excavation and removal of excess materials from site with excavated materials as fill and landscape berming. The loading docks were located to take advantage of the cross fall on the site so that the lower level of the docks is facilitated by the natural slope of the land.

A SUDS was installed in conjunction with a rainwater harvesting tank to collect grey water for reuse within the building.

Mechanical &Electrical Scope

  • Site services installation including rainwater harvesting system, soils & wastes, mains water and gas services. Building installations including hot & colder water storage, domestic hot water generation, space heating & cooling (VRF system), ventilation & heat recovery units, fire & smoke dampers and a BMS.
  • General services & small power, lighting and emergency lighting and control systems, communications & IT services, access control, fire alarm installation, security installations, PV roof panels and lift installations.

Sustainability/Environmental aspects

The incorporation of Sustainable Energy Technologies beyond NZEB requirements.

mac-group have engaged with CAB Group and Byrne Looby Consulting Engineers for the lime/cement stabilisation of the entire site area, optimising the site won material to improve the CBR results, thereby minimising export of material offsite and consequently reducing the excessive import of quarried stone to the site. The recycling value of using lime/cement stabilisation will generate a net saving of 22,400 tonnes of imported quarried stone fill. This is the equivalent of 1,122 truck loads, furthering mac-group’s 2020 plans for a sustainable future. #ProgressingResponsibly

Project works include:

  • 146,465 sq. ft. warehouse
  • 14,272 sq. ft. Cat A offices and welfare areas over 2 floors
  • Triple Portal Steel Frame at 12m haunch height
  • Kingspan Composite Wall and roof cladding with feature Kingspan Shingle Cladding around office area
  • FM1 Fibre Mesh Reinforced Jointless warehouse floor slab
  • Precast Dock Levellers and retaining walls

mac-group proposed an alternative fire safety solution that not only saved the client money but ensured that the actual project was viable and able to commence.

This is mac-group’s 12th major logistical project completed in the last 30 months. This project has achieved LEED V4 Gold Certification and BER A1 Certification.
