Urban Village Developments – Equipoint

Equipoint, Yardley, Birmingham

Project Overview

mac-group recently completed the full refurbishment and conversion of a landmark 1960’s 10 storey office building into 247 luxury-finish apartments, over 12 floors. The building, renowned for its curvature shape, is located in Yardley, Birmingham (equidistant from the city centre, NEC, Airport & Solihull) and is set to attract city based professionals, given its desirable position and fantastic transport links.

The open-plan ten-storey high building includes:

  • A new steel frame roof-top extension that created an additional floor.
  • Internal demolition and asbestos removal form part of the soft strip and all internal partitions, windows and doors were removed.
  • Removal of all services and adaptations to the original energy centre form part of the works.
  • New lifts were also installed.

All floors have been stripped back to the existing structure, including asbestos removal and the forming of new central risers. Existing lifts have been removed and replaced with new. UPVC windows have replaced the existing metal framed windows across all floors. All floors have been reconfigured to house a mixture of 1 and 2 bed apartments and on the ground floor undercroft car parking and building management workspace.

Existing services were removed and a new substation was constructed and installed together with new LV network throughout the building with all distribution, lighting, power, fire alarm and life safety systems. The building includes a new roof top lightweight steel frame extension on top of the existing 10th floor concrete roof deck which is comprised of 16 new apartments and new staircases.
